Fly First Class with some mid mod themed American Airlines swag

So who knew that if you fly first class and especially first class international that airlines actually procure fabulous little swag bags for you?  I mean, I have not flown in years but still have never held a first class seat!  I discovered a fabulous cache of beautiful little premerger American Airlines swag but what makes this special and of interest to us MCM fans?  These bags were designed and badged by Eames Office and feature the awesome DOTS pattern.  They came in a few variations and are quite small.  They were made to distribute tiny sample sizes of toiletries and comfort items for flyers.  I became obsessed and started to grab low priced pieces.  As they started showing up at my home, I found a massive case of NIP SEALED packs that had all the goodies inside.  So I procured this box for my fans!  *****UPDATE***** These bags are available for purchase ON MY WEBSITE! NEW PROJECT: Greek Godess kitschy rain lamp. 

i picked this up a few months back. My husband started working on cleaning it today so we can test it.  

These swanky lights are filled with mineral oil which is pumped up top and follows the fishing line strings down into the bottom. They are tedious to clean but we are hoping this one will fire up.

In order to get the goddesses and foliage out, you need to be very careful and work it out between the fishing line strands.  They are pretty tight and actually strum like a guitar!  

Dawn detergent is the best for cleaning as it helps break down the oil residue. This is a dirty job. The original oil was dried up so at least that was not a mess.

Even the plastic foliage needed to soak in hot soapy water for a while.

Will update more as we move along!  She is going to be awesome after this cleaning and a little love.  Really hoping the motor works.  They can be replaced if needed. ✌️

DID YOU KNOW?

Many of my items are not sold Mid Century Modern purists?  That’s right, these beauties are being mixed in with other eras and designs! You guys know I skirt the era and often add things to my inventory that are not typical mcm. I do this because I want to follow design trends.  Many of my clients are interior design pros and I love helping them to complete a project with the perfect piece. My keen eye for stylish well made pieces spans eras and I love placing them in well designed spaces.  

As we get ready to start a new year, I would like to offer some thoughts on sprucing up your space.  We have been in our home almost 15 years!  It was new construction and we are at the point where we need to do some refreshing.  First thing we did was repaint the main bathroom.  The walls get to a point where they just need redone and our light mint green walls were no exception.  I convinced my husband to use grey semigloss this time and I am much happier!  We swapped out our foyer light with a used but newer fixture. It is not vintage but neither is our home so I do not feel too bad there.  Our tastes have changed over the years and it is time catch up with them.

Next, my husband has been patching wall holes and nail pops in the drywall.  Another thing necessary before painting.  The foyer is getting cut out for rolling as we speak and we should have enough paint to move on to the hallway.  I am excited to bid the tan adieu and move on to grey.  We are keeping 2 walls darker brown as they did not see much wear and tear.  The next thing we need to tend to is the carpet.  I am ready to rip it up but we only have plywood under there.....another sad reality of new construction on a budget.  You just cannot do it all.  We went with a custom builder and got to choose every last detail of the house and while the carpet was medium grade and the best we would afford, it has served us well but it now is toast and needs to go.  We have been looking for flooring alternatives but at this point, probably cannot afford to tackle that, even doing our own labor. I’d like to have this plan executed prior to restoring the Pearsall couch in my garage that I am seriously ready to get upstairs but the restoration work will be tedious and thinking waiting until warmer weather is probably the best.

Gorgeous mod wing back in spring green upholstery.  This has been fully restored by my beloved upholsterer.  It is an amazing queen throne and the perfect accent for your  maximalist decor.  You can work this into bohemian, jungalow and midcentury decors.  I see it with some amazing jungle walls........

F Schumacher fabric.  This chair needs to be surrounded in bold.

F Schumacher.  I love this dragon print.  If you have not stepped into the high end design world lately, I suggest you do! Amazing things are being done with pattern and color! This chair would rock in a busy room and it needs a fab pillow!  

Karastan Chableau Shag carpet (6 by 9) circa 1969-1973.  Made with Karastan’s state of the art Kara-Loc technology only during these years.  It is in great condition!  Neutral with cream, brown and black wool yarns.  This piece came back with me from Westchester.  It truly is a rare find in this pristine condition.

New RESTORATIONS:  I just ordered fabric for the following restorations.  I will be proceeding with the work as my budget allows. My AS IS pricing is no longer active ONCE THE WORK STARTS.  I will run the numbers after I talk to the upholsterer, but I did score the fabric for an amazing price!  I work hard to get fabric cheap and keep my expenses low.  

This piece just needs covers for the existing cushions.  I think the work will be pretty reasonable. I picked this awesome palm print perfect for a Florida room or tiki lounge, just as this piece needs to be!  Estimated completed price $600-800.

I just picked this fabulous pair up last weekend. France and Son Danish teak arm chairs with a beautiful profile.  Design by Sigvard Bernadotte and sold by John Stuart Inc. All metal tags are present.  These will be getting a full rebuild. New strapping, foam and upholstery. I am buying both of the above colors and deciding when they get here.  If you love them, you can choose.  💕 These are high end Danish, collectible and sexy as hell.  Off the cuff, finished price will probably be $1500+/- for the pair.  One choice is more cream, the other is oatmeal.  I think they will both compliment the warm teak wood beautifully!

The main event! So you remember I came home with the Ry Mobler Wall unit and Murphy bed in September.  I quickly proved it was indeed a Hans Wegner design. 🤘🏼💕 Then decided we would keep it for my lucky son.  We finally got around to swapping his room out!  Step one: Trent disassembled his IKEA bed.

Step 3 lots of heavy lifting.  We disassembled the bed from the cabinet which made it a lot better to get up our flight of stairs in the foyer.  It’s a bilevel so tight for turns. 

We made Trent help! He did a fine job taking apart his old bed too.

Credenza refinish, Black Friday/Small Biz Sat

I am in the final week of my tax prep class and so excited to finish up!  I have a final next Monday which I need to score 80 or better on. 🙏🏻 Hopefully this will open me up for some hours next spring.  I love what I do here but it does not pay my bills.  🤷‍♂️ So until that happens I have to keep working a plan B. Meanwhile, I am thinking about Black Friday and Small Biz Saturday.  I will have some great stocking stuffers from Primitives by Kathy out at my retail space priced to move. I am doing $6 ea and pick 4 for $20.  These are new gifts from my wholesaler in packaging with tags, etc.  they retail for double this price so come shop with me!  I hope to spend some time hanging out at the mall too.  Please come take a look at the Broyhill set if you are looking for a mid mod dining room. I just redid the top of the credenza too.  I am not so sure I can squeeze that in but I left a flier on the table about it.  Here are some pics

Another interesting item available is this great antique chest.  My son used it as a toy chest and we made some modifications including fixed hinges that keep the top open all the time, plastic trim over the metal edge. The lock is broken so no chance of locking a tiny person inside and we are leaving a mat in the bottom.  Great toy storage for a waiting room or play room. The paint is durable and was redone before we bought it 13 years ago or so.  It is a neat piece and needs a new home.

The Broyhill set just received it’s makeover so my AS IS price has been adjusted to reflect my efforts. The wood has not been refinished but I have oiled and tended to it. There are areas where color is uneven and some light signs of wear. Generally, the whole set is decent. I removed all the old upholstery, replaced the foam and batting with new and used a beautiful gold linen velvet fabric which is very high end and lovely. I scored a good deal of 5 yards of it but it is probably $100 a yard fabric. I decided to dress it up in gold because it looks so great with the walnut and was thinking it would be a great touch for the holidays! Get your home holiday ready! Here’s a look at the revamped space. I hung the mirror shadow box and if one of you people do not take that thing home you are seriously missing out on the most fab mirror ever! It looks great over a couch or even on a wall with the dining table. Mirrors are a great illusion to open up your space. This one is cool because it is loaded with little shelves and you can display all your kitschy little treasures. I’d fill it with my christmas pixie elves!

Fabulous Sonneman style eyeball arc lamp just added! Priced at $200. Cement base wrapped with aluminum cover. Socket just rewired and checked by my husband. Cool CFL bulb. I can’t plug this in because my plug is up high but it works fine. PLEASE NOTE! The pole breaks down for transit AND it will come off the base. DO NOT lift by the pole! Please remove from base and then break down the pole and fold. It is a super lamp! Just love it and it is a smaller size so not crazy room hogging like some of them. Perfect over a seating area for reading.

MAD MOD WORLD VINTAGE ON THE SCREEN

I sold a dark green victorian settee earlier this year that is currently on the the set of TELL ME A STORY on CBS ALL ACCESS. The show premiered on halloween night and I did not spot the couch yet although I suspect it is in Kim Cattrall’s living room. Episode two is up tomorrow so I will try to screen shot if I find it! The show is dark but so far I am liking it!

I recently sold a 50s industrial tool cart to the set of a movie filming in Philadelphia called 17 BRIDGES. Look for that next summer! It will be used in a kitchen and will be transformed into a counter with another Lyons piece next to it. Can’t wait to see how they work this cool industrial kitchen!!!
