Next up!  I added another video to my YouTube library! Come check it out and subscribe to my channel!  I am trying to keep my videos pretty short yet still informative.  Give me a few minutes of your time and let me know what you think!  This week’s episode is about Robert P Karoff of Karoff Originals and features a very cool foldable coffee table he invented that is currently in my inventory.

I suggest if you are keen on something in my inventory but waiting for an income tax refund you reach out now.  I will hold items short term or with a deposit if for a week or more.  I just sold a pair of ladder back chairs and the dining chairs I am working on recovering plus I have given many shipping quotes in the last week.  I expect things will be moving quickly in the coming weeks and that is a good thing as post holidays has been slower.  Reach out if I can assist you and I will do my best.  I still have weekday hours doing taxes until April 15th and have been pretty busy.  Thanks for following along!  XO Malissa

Fly First Class with some mid mod themed American Airlines swag

FullSizeRender.jpg

So who knew that if you fly first class and especially first class international that airlines actually procure fabulous little swag bags for you?  I mean, I have not flown in years but still have never held a first class seat!  I discovered a fabulous cache of beautiful little premerger American Airlines swag but what makes this special and of interest to us MCM fans?  These bags were designed and badged by Eames Office and feature the awesome DOTS pattern.  They came in a few variations and are quite small.  They were made to distribute tiny sample sizes of toiletries and comfort items for flyers.  I became obsessed and started to grab low priced pieces.  As they started showing up at my home, I found a massive case of NIP SEALED packs that had all the goodies inside.  So I procured this box for my fans!  *****UPDATE***** These bags are available for purchase ON MY WEBSITE! Click on the LINK to head to the page! Grey bags are ready to ship, red bags will be here next week. If you order a red bag your order will not ship until complete. THANKS!

I have 60 of these on the way! New in cellophane with tags and all the goodies inside! Reserve yours now! *these were probably from 2013ish. They were the last swag prior to the AA MERGER.

NEW PROJECT: Greek Godess kitschy rain lamp.

i picked this up a few months back. My husband started working on cleaning it today so we can test it.

These swanky lights are filled with mineral oil which is pumped up top and follows the fishing line strings down into the bottom. They are tedious to clean but we are hoping this one will fire up.

In order to get the goddesses and foliage out, you need to be very careful and work it out between the fishing line strands.  They are pretty tight and actually strum like a guitar!

Dawn detergent is the best for cleaning as it helps break down the oil residue. This is a dirty job. The original oil was dried up so at least that was not a mess.

Even the plastic foliage needed to soak in hot soapy water for a while.

Will update more as we move along!  She is going to be awesome after this cleaning and a little love.  Really hoping the motor works.  They can be replaced if needed. ✌️

LAYAWAY?  If you are eying a large item in my inventory but are waiting for a tax refund, reach out!  I will gladly pull an item from the market with a deposit.  Message me to discuss!  I am stocked with some awesome restorations! Before you shop for sub par New or reproduction furniture, have a look at vintage items ready for this century.  New fabrics and structure.  You can’t get this stuff off the shelf at any old vintage shop!

Tools, Picking and eating New England.

Last week was a whirlwind but worth the stress of making sure everyone’s life would be smooth in my absence. I embarked on a road trip with my friend, combined forces and expenses and came home with some great new items, memories and new friends.  I don’t care what you sell or specialize in, we are all the same deep down and the cast of characters at the auction will keep me laughing for years.

The first leg- We had concert tickets for a Monday night show.  A Philly band we both like, Waxahatchee.  The tickets were bought months ago so I ended up getting home very late and doing my two days at work Monday and Tuesday.  Home for Tuesday evening but not really as that is when my band rehearsed so I did not get caught up on my sleep.  Wednesday morning I had to head back to NJ to leave for the trip but not until I stopped at the upholsterer to pick up the finished X Benches. I buffered in time to that stop and luckily so as he was still finishing them up.  I left before 10am and headed straight to my friend. We arrived within minutes of early other and got on the road.  We made great time and it was a very scenic trip....New York skyline, the NEW Tappon Zee Bridge, beautiful areas I could never afford to live in and continued through Connecticut and Massachusetts.  We arrived in Nashua, NH by evening and had dinner with some friends in the hotel restaurant.  It was good to put faces to the stories my friend tells me and everyone was excited about the buying and selling happening all week.  I even caught some interest in what I do so conversations were easy and light.

My friend was out shopping the swap meet at 5am Thursday and I was getting up and ready to do my scheduled delivery.  Turns out it was a beyond crappy morning with rain and yes even snow.  Cold and miserable.  My friend had his fill of shopping and decided he would accompany me to the coast and by the way, found an estate sale close by just across the boarder in Massachusetts.  We stopped and I snagged some great items including a just listed Calif/Asia rattan lounge chair and a set of Amish Butterprint Cinderella nesting bowls.  After trying to buy a set of Jarts and being told they were illegal by the estate sale company, my quick thinking friend spun the request to just buy the plastic fins and nuts.  I have a set of wrecked ones so hope to make him a set with the parts. You do know kids split skulls with that famous yard game? 😂 We continued on to Rye, a beautiful coastal town just outside of Portsmouth and delivered the goods.  Then had some lunch in a cute little burger joint.  Portsmouth is really adorable.  We got back to the hotel and then had a super seafood dinner at a local joint with all the characters we were hanging out with.  Of course, it was Lobster Roll for me!  Friday was more parking lot swap meet action, I was schooled at how to shop for Stanley Chisels, in case I find any while I am picking.  Who knew people were so passionate about chisels?  The auction started so we hung in there a bit.  This is one of the biggest tool auctions in the country so there was definitely many collectors and dealers driving up the prices.

As the auction winded down and the money ran out, it was time to move on to the next leg of the trip.  We headed to Rhode Island to my friend’s Aunt and Uncle where we stayed for the night.  It was my first time in the state so excited to have now been in all the north eastern states.  I got to try Quahogs or Stuffies, which are like a crab cake only with chopped clam. So good!  There were some other delicacies like wine biscuits that were also pretty awesome.  We had a great night visiting and loaded my van with some furniture that was going home with my friend and we headed out for the trip home.  It would not have been a complete trip without a craigslist deal and my friend had one lined up.  We actually went to PA to pick up a tiller before we got back.  Then we hooked up with my family and our VW friends at a car show for the night in Trenton.  It was an awesome week and hope we can do some more joint adventures soon. 🤘🏼

So what did I bring home?  First off, here is a look at the X Benches! I am in love.  These great benches were popular in the 70s and often attributed to interior designer Billy Baldwin.  They are super popular now and look fabulous at the foot of a bed.  I used the plush Blush Royale velvet from Joybird after my client selected it in another color for the wave couch.  Amazing fabric!!! I have some yardage left if anyone is looking for a small project.  Available now in the Etsy shop!

Another darling restoration in the books! These were extremely labor intensive and are priced accordingly to cover the upholsterer, my fabric and markup.  I have included shipping in my price.  If you are local I may be able to come down s…

They are sturdy and comfy and you can sit on them!  Under a console table, at the foot of a bed, in a small sitting area, these make awesome room accents! Interior designers love them. Blush is a hot trending color and looks great in a white washed room.

Quick updates!

I have been totally slammed and thank you to all my wonderful customers!  I am so enjoying working with you in finding the perfect items for your home! 💗. I have a few items still in transit, but between large furniture items and lots of high end glassware and fragiles, I am happy to get your reports that things are arriving safe and you love them!

This Saturday is Pyrex and Retro Fest in Havre De Grace, MD!  Been pricing and packing but it's going well and cannot wait!  If you are anywhere near and can come, I will assure you this event is going to be awesome!  The whole town is involved!  Please stop by and say hi!  I will have some give aways and coupons for my etsy shop good through thanksgiving.  I want you guys to think of my when you are decorating for the holidays and shopping for gifts!!!

Please shop early!  I am still buying and trying to get new items listed to keep my shop filled with the best of MCM for the season.  I just came home with a car full of Herman Miller Eames Shells and will be reimagining them with new repro bases from Modern Conscience.  Stay tuned for some more pretties!  With that said, my Greige RAR is officially on the market.  Made between 1951-1953, this 2nd generation shell is great for any decor. If you are looking for an iconic piece that shows up in magazines and tv shows, this is it!  Find the listing in my etsy shop here :

Here is a look at my next projects!

No worries dirty friends!  You will be beautiful again!

No worries dirty friends!  You will be beautiful again!

The cobalt fiberglass (Ultramarine) with cobalt Naugahyde upholstery chairs is so stunning!  There is an IBM inventory label on one.  Their nickname is BIG BLUE, so my guess is this is possibly a custom order.  They have the scholastic mounts and stacking bases but I will be replacing with dowel bases.  I cannot wait to see them!  I will need to save up a bit to get to these but if you are interested in purchasing, I will get to it faster.  Set of 4 will be perfect at a dining table! 💗. I also got a single side chair in tan fiberglass.  Will probably do walnut dowels on this one.  Finally a black arm chair with black Naugahyde.  I could do any base on there.  Leaning toward rocker in chrome and maple, but maybe chrome Eiffle.  I would take requests and this one will go for less than the Greige as the shell is newer.  Ok maybe 70's!  😜✌🏻️

Here are the cobalt after I cleaned the dirt off.  I have more cleaning to do but boy are they lovely!!!!

These are going to look great with maple or birch dowels on chrome wires!

Alright, back to work for me!  Will pop up for air shortly!  Need to get the Brasilia chairs finished!  Hope to see some friends in Saturday!  Event link can be found pinned at the top of my FB PAGE: Facebook.com/madformodmalissa

Fall Shopping Tips-Welcome to PA DUTCH COUNTRY!

Whether it feels like it or not, fall is on the way!  There are many great places to shop for unique treasures in my area and if you are lucky enough to be in day trip distance, I'd like to share some with you! I generally consider myself in a PRIMITIVE hot spot.  Farmhouse and shabby is plentiful in PA Dutch Country.  One great thing about my area is that work and spending ethics of the prior generations led many to hold onto their items so we are good picking for not only primitives, but MCM as well.  Some great fall shopping can start at the great flea markets and antique shows in the area.  Renningers Antiques (renningers.net) hosts 3 EXTRAVAGANZA's throughout the year and the final weekend is September 22-24. The Kutztown location offers Thurs-Sat shopping and Adamstown, about a 1/2 hour southwest is open Sunday.  Make sure your grab a $1 off coupon on their website towards admission!  The market is all outdoors and vendors bring all sorts of goodies. Be prepared to wheel and deal!  There is great food inside the farmers market to grab a cooler and take home some PA DUTCH delicacies.  Don't forget to stop by Fleetwood Antique Mall, fleetwoodantiquemall.com just south of Kutztown!  My space is on the 2nd floor, rear but there are a few others selling MCM so check them out!  The mall has a very unique selection of curiosities and it is a fun stop.  GRQ used furnishings is housed there at the moment as well so many nice things at reasonable prices.

Another fun place to shop is Jakes Flea Market http://www.jakesfleamarket.com in Barto on Route 100 just north of Boyertown.  Open Sat and Sun, the earlier you arrive, the better.  By noon most vendors are packing up or already gone.  Also pop in Fensty's Flea Market http://fenstysfleamarket.com which is just north as you head into Bally.  This indoor market has just expanded and includes a bid board area, flea market and many vendors.  They have hours Friday-Sunday, with an anchor shop, Another Man's Treasure, having some weekday hours.

My favorite Flea market has to be Shrupp's Grove http://shuppsgrove.com/ . It is in a wooded area and under the shade of trees.  It almost feels like a fair.  This market is open Sat and Sun and is in Adamstown, south of Reading.  Adamstown is full of retail antique shops and you really need a few days to get through them all.  You will need to pick to find great deals but the selection cannot be beat.  This is definitely a higher priced zone so if you are shopping on a budget, be prepared for sticker shock! 😜

I hope you are able to get out and enjoy some fall flea markets and I surely hope things cool off soon around here!  There is nothing like a good road trip and keeping your eyes peeled for thrifts and sales is so much fun.

Not in my area?  No worries!  I ship almost everything in my inventory!

Need more inspiration?  Please check out this great blog post on Invaluable, which even cites Bucks County PA as a top place to shop......I agree, but you need a fat bank roll.  It is a great area to visit and I usually hit the Golden Nugget Flea Market in Lambertville, NJ just across the Delaware River,  a few times a year.  :)   http://www.invaluable.com/blog/roadmap-for-summer-antiquing-in-america/
