New project: MadModWorldVintage YOUTUBE channel

Please stop by and give me less than 5 min of your time! The first video in my educational youtube series 'Mid Century MISSconceptions’ is launched. Produced by my 14 year old daughter, this fun informative video talks about my recent visit to the Hagley Museum Library in Wilmington, DE to investigate a John Stuart Inc catalog. I did not find the chair I was looking for in it, but I did find some great info plus hope to return to peruse an amazing collection of catalogs and business records from the interior design business of William Pahlmann. Included in this collection are numerous catalogs, swatches and project documentation which will be a dream to poke through. I hope to get back there after my tax season commitment is fulfilled. Stay tuned!

My main point in the video is to talk about the resources I found, FREE for the taking. I have been to many museums to peruse catalogs and totes of documents. This is the only way to prove your item’s truth. So many lies are being spead and the IN THE MANNER OF descriptions just denotes a lazy dealer. Making an attempt to examine catalogs and historical documents is the only way to find the truth of a piece that may be unmarked. So many things were copied over the years, this is important to both buyers and to sellers. It is also a fun thing to know that guy next to you may be finishing up his doctoral dissertation.

Here is a look! I appreciate those who take the 4 min, some odd seconds to review my project. PLEASE SHARE and PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOU TUBE CHANNEL while you are there! Let me know what you think! xo Malissa

Lounge Chair restoration

I have been crazy busy this week with deliveries and even drove to Brooklyn for the first time ever!  It went very smooth and I would not rule it out for the future.  I also need to check my ez pass to see what tolls I incurred as I believe the Varrazano Bridge was $17 each way plus there probably was a few other charges along the way.  My kids were along and helped navigate.

I was able to replace the Pirelli strapping in the lounge chair.  It was a pretty easy project.  I have the chair listed for sale AS IS, with an option to have custom cushions made.  I have fabrics available in my stash which would be included in the quote or provide your own.  I can also order you something at cost.  It is a great chair and comfy enough with the original cushions but will be amazing with new high density foam and a great fabric choice!

I have not identified this beauty.  It is very similar to a Baumritter lounge but there is a metal plate on the front with logo worn off.  None of the Baumritter’s have that so I am pretty sure it is another maker.  Maybe some day I will figure it out!  The wood has been oiled and it is ready to go.

I am not sure what I will work on next. We will be busy in the weeks coming with weekend trips and other summer activities.  I just had an ad in our local newspaper yesterday so hoping some classy local peeps find me.  I would love to help some locals furnish their homes!

The art department at the Reading Eagle did a great job on my ad. 👌

A current view of my offerings at the Fleetwood Antique Mall.  If you are looking for a large mirrored shadow box, I got one in there and it is amazing!  I believe everything at this point is priced UNDER $100, minus the Ming table set.  Come have a look and take some great items home.  I will probably be shaking up my look come next month so this is last call before I do that.  We get lots of college students in August so I will be doing a display with them in mind!

Thank you for reading!  Still in limbo with job hunting and not knowing what my future holds.  This is all I got right now so send me your referrals! I would love to work with like minded folks who need some fun new pieces!  XO Malissa

Thanks for your support!  I will probably not check anymore until after vacation.  We have a lot of packing to do!  Our agenda includes living in our 1989 VW Vanagon for 10 days.  We will be camping in the Moose River Plains of the western Adirondacks and ending up at the moe.down music festival in Turin, NY. Cannot wait and hoping for some moose, loons and other great wildlife spotting!

Have a great holiday! Malissa

oh and hey! Everyone loves the curtains I had in my booth.  I decided to list them as I swapped them out for summer and expect an air conditioner in my window soon. They are gorgeous and colorful! See the etsy shop for details.

Fresh Restores!  New Listings!

I have been banging out the projects in the last few weeks.  All are ready to ship and the final few chairish listings should be live in the next 24 hours.

Meet the Heywood Wakefield tables!

A total of 5 end tables have been totally restored to their former glory. Sanded and stripped if needed, new stain and layers of tinted top coat to replicate that awesome opaque finish us Hey Wake fans love.  Since I had 4 of the same step end tables, I did a pair in each of the popular finishes, champagne and wheat.  They look awesome!

New to Heywood?  Here is a side by side comparison of the coveted finishes, champagne on the left with it's pink undertones and wheat on the right which has yellow undertones.  Both darken with age so if you find an unmarked piece, it may …

New to Heywood?  Here is a side by side comparison of the coveted finishes, champagne on the left with it's pink undertones and wheat on the right which has yellow undertones.  Both darken with age so if you find an unmarked piece, it may be hard to determine on sight.  When you look underneath you can usually find evidence of these hues.

I also did a great corner table! This would be placed between 2 pieces of a sectional.  A real cool table if it fits your configuration. It is bigger that it appears. It is done in champagne.

Here is a before pic and how cool it can look with the right couch!

Next, I got the Italian ladderbacks finished.  They are beautiful!  The black chairs received all new seagrass seats and a new clear coat to protect that chippy finish that is the perfect age look if you like that style! These will be awesome in a farmhouse or traditional setting or those who like to mix up your Mod with more traditional looks.  They are very whimsical in design and just make me smile.  I like the look with the natural chairs at the ends!  All of these items can be Bus shipped to your nearest Greyhound station very reasonably! I do all the work! You show up when they call you to get them.  I will help you through, just reach out!

Last update! Frank Lloyd Wright samples will arrive Friday! I hope to do a big reveal!  Maybe I will go live on Facebook.  Stay tuned to my social media!  Important....i am shopping for things that will work for chair recovering and since this fabric is so expensive, I cannot get a big selection.  I will sell 1/4 and 1/2 yard cuts of what I get for myself but if you see something you want, speak up right away so I can work with you on ordering.  I will need to clarify minimums, etc.  There are limited quantities available so would like to submit my order asap. You can only purchase this fabric through an interior designer, architect or someone like me with a trade account! I will ship to your for free.  50% deposit due when my order is finalized, balance due after I receive and send pics but prior to shipping/delivery. These fabrics are $150-300/yard.  There are linen, velvet, sheers and trim.  Can't wait to inspect these fine fabrics!

i am off through a busy weekend of pyrex, band performances (2 gigs on Sunday) and sports!  have a great week everyone!

Web site redesign launched!

I fell down a rabbit hole last week adding myself to Houzz.  I went to add the button to my web page and then decided to completely redo it entirely!  Please pop over and check it out!  I have hopefully made it better to navigate and used a different layout, which I really like.  I am still adding things, so not all of my customized pieces are logged yet but hope to get to that this week.  I also added my blog sign up form to page one instead of a splash page.  I had a few people express that they did not like it and I get it, but generally speaking, people won't sign up unless it is in their face!  ;)  Please reach out if you find something not working or something is just awkward so I can tweak it!  xo Web page link

I ordered some caning/weaving books which are coming today as I am having trouble figuring out how the weave was done in my dining chairs.  Hopefully one of the 3 books coming will address it.  If not, I will pick one that is in there and go with it.  I am anxious to get moving on them so they are ready to list.

I just ordered chair glides for the 40/4 stacking chair set I have.  I know I lost a sale a while back because of the glide issue and I also did not directly deal with the customer or I would have bought them and sent them.  So I sourced the parts and will be installing them so they are ready to go and will not scratch floors.  If you like the commercial/industrial look, need a solid heavy and sturdy chair set for home or office, give them a look!  The chair has great history and is in fact the chair that all subsequent stacking chairs have strived to be like.  An ingenious design and a sleek look, the matched set of 4 will make a great add for your seating needs.  Check them out here:  40/4 stacking chairs by David Rowland

I am very happy to move a few items that have been here for a while over the last week. (and 2 bus shipments that have once again reminded me how REASONABLE it is to ship a chair across the country on the bus!!!)  I am also gearing up for a few auctions ending today that I plan on bidding on a few things so will see if I end up with anything.  I have a friend who is also interested in buying so I am able to spend the day on Friday hitting some sales with her in North Jersey.  I am very excited and it will be a fun day.  Maybe I will even come home with some cool stuff!  Keep your eyes on my social media!

Looking for something?  With all of these sales I am hitting, let me know if you are looking for something specific!  I will certainly look for you!  It's hard for me to keep buying on my limited budget!  Regional and local peeps, this means you!  haha  In an effort to expand my regional presence, I have been mailing postcards out to Interior Design and photography pros in the area.  If you know of someone in Berks, Lehigh, Montgomery, Bucks, Lancaster, Lebanon areas who may rent furnishings for shoots or staging or even someone who may just need to keep my card on file in case something comes up in the future, let me know!  Working with professionals in my own area is a goal of mine for this year.  I love servicing the nation, don't get me wrong, but I feel there may be a need for my services here as well if people know about it.

NEW TO HOUZZ!  Click the widget below and visit my page!  I'd appreciate if any of my past customers would leave me a review to get me started! xo

Thank you for your time and enjoy your week!  xo Malissa

UPDATE!  I had success at my auctions last night! The following will be available when I get them picked up!

Another amazing piece! Glass top dining table featuring lucite legs and brass details.  27" tall by 52" diameter.

I also got a cool champagne ice bucket on a stand and some mod serving pieces from another sale that I will be picking up on Friday!  I have a great north jersey picking adventure with a friend this week! Totally looking forward to it!
